A message from the CEO
Welcome to the September Pain Awareness Month edition of the Painaustralia eNewsletter.
There have been several exciting changes and events at Painaustralia since the last edition of eNews.
Firstly, a big welcome to our newest board director, chronic pain scientist Professor Lorimer Moseley. Lorimer has penned the guest piece which highlights his approach to his new appointment and to chronic pain informed by years of experience, research and practice.
We have also welcomed some new organisational members and are excited to announce that we are now accepting individual membership following the adoption of amendments to our constitution at our last AGM.
The touchstone for all our work is consumer experience and we are now inviting expressions of interest from consumers who would like to join our Consumer Advisory Group. More details are provided in this edition of eNews.
It has also been a busy time for our board which has been undertaking a strategic planning exercise to inform the 2021-2024 Painaustralia Strategic Plan. As we are all only too aware, the challenge of raising awareness of pain and making it a national health priority while ensuring equitable access to effective pain services for all Australians has never been greater.
This past month also saw the culmination of input from Painaustralia to various reviews as well as new opportunities to advocate for people living with chronic pain in the release of a number of key reports which you can read more about in this edition of eNews.
I want to congratulate Daniel Scali who is now the official Guiness World record holder for the longest abdominal plank. Daniel embodies the notion of achievement in the face of great challenge presented by a complex chronic pain condition.
As the name suggests, Pain Awareness Month is all about raising awareness of what it is like living with chronic pain. During September, Painaustralia will be releasing factsheets, blogs, online videos, and hosting a webinar to raise awareness of the reality of living with chronic pain.
We invite you to join us in raising awareness of chronic pain as part of Pain Awareness Month alongside our international friends.
I hope you enjoy this edition of eNews.
