Painaustralia 2020 Annual General Meeting
On the 1 May 2020, Painaustralia held our Annual General Meeting, virtually for the first time. We were pleased to note the strong attendance with over 50 organisational members participating.
The AGM was also the first one to be chaired by Em Prof Ian Chubb. He launched our 2019 Annual Report, noting the significant year that is was for Painaustralia with the launch of the National Strategic Action Plan on Pain Management. Prof Chubb flagged that while there have been some major improvements in the awareness and understanding of chronic pain in Australia, a change which has been propelled in part by the role Painaustralia has played in advocacy, we still have a way to go. He outlined his vision in which pain is a recognised national health priority and all Australians living with pain or at risk of pain-related disability, their families and carers and highlighted Painaustralia’s goal that every Australian should to be able to access credible information about pain and a world-class system of care.
Our CEO Carol Bennett highlighted a number of major achievements for the year including the launch of our Consumer Advisory Group Cost of Pain Report and other resources launched by Minister Hunt the National Pain Services Directory which is a guide for consumers and health practitioners to find multidisciplinary pain clinics in their local community; and Talking About Pain: language guidelines for chronic pain developed in collaboration with particular input from our Consumer Advisory Group.
The AGM was an opportunity to give special thanks to our members, sponsors and supporters who make our work possible as well as our board and high performing staff team for their dedicated focus on our mission and purpose.
