Opioid Regulatory Communications Committee

Painaustralia is pleased to be a member of the TGA’s new Opioid Regulatory Communications Committee.

In late April 2020, the TGA brought together major clinical and consumer stakeholders to discuss a coordinated approach to communicating the reforms to the regulation of prescription opioid medicines announced last year.

Many of these reforms which involve major changes to the approved indications for these products, introduction of smaller sizes for some products and new safety warnings across the product class have significant 'flow on' implications for prescribers, consumers, patients and their carers.

Following on from that workshop, the new Opioid Regulatory Communications Committee will work to inform the TGA around the implementation of the reforms, ensuring that the communications activities are reflective of both practitioner and community concerns.
