This month the National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (NACCHO) hosted its annual conference in Brisbane.
NACCHO is the national peak body representing 143 Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services across the country on Aboriginal health and wellbeing issues.
We were delighted to support our member, Innovative Rehab's Clinical Psychologist Tanja Hirvonen’s participation in the conference talking pain and mental health in indigenous communities.
Tanja is a registered clinical psychologist (MPsych(Clin)) who specialises in Aboriginal mental health, social and emotional wellbeing, health professionals’ self-care and trauma, and her session titled ‘Pain management with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ was well-attended and received positive reviews.
Painaustralia welcomes the opportunity for dialogue about pain and indigenous health. Improving the health care system and addressing inadequacies that are found in regional and remote Australia, as well as those specific to indigenous populations is key to our mission and a core value.
You can see a short video introducing Tanja at the conference here.
