The way people with pain are spoken about in the media can heavily influence how they are talked about in daily conversations. As more people become aware of the prevalence of chronic pain and as media attention increases (especially around the use of medication) it has become clear we need strong guidelines to advocate for empowering and supportive language to be used.
As a result, Painaustralia has released Australia’s first Language Guidelines for Chronic Pain for public consultation.
