PMRI luncheon success

The PMRI luncheon Sailing Through Pain proved to be a great success, with more than $44,000 raised for the Pain Management Research Institute (PMRI) and its new studies into opioid-tapering and chemotherapy-induced pain.

In his opening remarks, NSW Minister for Health Brad Hazzard acknowledged how debilitating pain can be, having had experience first hand with his mother's spinal pain condition. He noted the need for improved pain specialist services across the state, and his pride at the reputation of the PMRI as a leader in pain research globally.

Member for Gosford and Painaustralia Ambassador Liesl Tesch AM provided an emotional account of her journey of living with pain during a Q&A with the MC Sally Loane. She also discussed the importance of her role as a champion for people living with pain and her constituents.

Head of the PMRI Professor Paul Glare presented the institute’s key research projects and also held a Q&A with an ‘ADAPT Graduate’, about the benefits of multidisciplinary pain management.
