Take Home Naloxone Pilot Program
The Australian Government has invested $10 million in a Take Home Naloxone Pilot. Under the pilot, naloxone is now available for free to people who may either experience, or witness, an opioid overdose. No prescription is required.
The take home naloxone pilot is aimed at tackling rising opioid related harm. It is aimed at assisting people who are at risk of an opioid overdose or adverse reaction, their carers, friends and family members. Naloxone is now available in New South Wales, South Australia and Western Australia.
The take home naloxone pilot started on 1 December 2019 and will run through to 28 February 2021. Painaustralia is working with the Department of Health to promote the pilot and will continue to share more information as it progresses.
