RTPM update

Painaustralia has continued its work with both the ACT and NSW health departments on the rollout of real time prescription monitoring programs.

While these prescription monitoring systems are important in keeping consumers safe and to reduce medicine-related harm, it is essential to ensure consumers who need medications to manage their pain are not denied access or stigmatised under these new State and Territory programs.

We have been working closely with both ACT and NSW health departments on the messaging for both consumers and also for health professionals who will be using the system when prescribing or dispensing medications to patients.

NSW’s program, Safescript NSW, rolled out in the Hunter Valley and Central Coast region last month with Canberra Script to roll out in the ACT next year.

Painaustralia’s work has included the development and feedback on the messaging from a consumer perspective. Thank you to the members of our Consumer Advisory Group who have taken an active role in providing advice to the health departments.
