CHF Consumer and Community Ministerial Roundtable
Painaustralia joined CHF and their member consumer health groups in a roundtable with Minister Hunt in July. The roundtable provided an opportunity to highlight key issues of concern to the sector including the need for better prevention approaches to chronic conditions.

National Women’s Health Strategy 2020–30 and National Men’s Health Strategy 2020–30
The Commonwealth is developing a National Women’s Health Strategy 2020–30 and a National Men’s Health Strategy 2020–30, both of which are expected to be finalised and launched in early 2019. Painaustralia CEO, Carol Bennett was invited by the Minister for Health to attend both Forums and highlighted the impact of pain on the health of both men and women.
Announcements from the Forum’s included an investment of $18 million for medical research to improve women’s health as well as well as $1.3 million to address prostate cancer and male infertility.

Pharmaus 2018
Painaustralia attended Pharmaus 2018 held at Parliament House, Canberra, hearing from:

- Professor Andrew Wilson, Chair of the Phamaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee The issue of better access to non-opioid medications for pain relief and the current limitations of the PBS were highlighted in a panel session.
CHF Youth Forum
Painaustralia joined our consumers Ellyn Bicknell and Sarah Fowler at the inaugural Youth Health Forum in Canberra to discuss their experiences in managing chronic pain and the health challenges they face, including their experience as the “Missing Middle” of the health system. The gathering, hosted by the Consumers Health Forum brought together youth leaders and nominees of youth and community organisations. The forum identified the issues impacting on young people and generated recommendations to improve health system responses.

Eisenhower Fellow visiting Australia
Painaustralia hosted Eisenhower Fellowship awardee, Andwele Jolly, from Washington University in St. Louis to discuss inter professional pain management models on his travels through Australia and Rwanda. Mr Jolly met with a number of key pain groups and researchers as part of his visit.
National Rural Health Alliance 25 anniversary dinner
The National Rural Health Alliance used the recent CouncilFest meeting, the annual face-to-face meeting of the Alliance Council, to celebrate its 25th anniversary of advocating for improved health services to remote and rural communities around Australia.
The Alliance Council, Friends of the Alliance, staff and invited guests including Painaustralia, gathered in Canberra for a 25th Anniversary dinner to mark the significant occasion.
