NPS launches new nerve pain resources
NPS MedicineWise has launched new resources to help health professionals and consumers better understand and manage neuropathic (nerve) pain.
Health professionals will find help with diagnosing neuropathic pain, including a downloadable neuropathic pain questionnnaire and a demonstration video showing how to perform sensory tests to help diagnose radicular back pain.
There are also guidelines for management of neuropathic pain and prescribing of pregabalin and amitriptyline and information about further professional development opportunities.
There is a practice Q&A with a Melbourne-based GP on how he deals with diagnosis and prescribing for neuropathic pain and there are patient resources available for download, which can be useful take-home information.
For consumers there is a dedicated page where they can find out more about nerve pain, how it is diagnosed and how to manage it.
To coincide with the launch of these new resources, Painaustralia CEO Carol Bennett joined NPS MedicineWise in their Pharmacist Hour Chat on Facebook, which received a good response from members of the public, many of whom had their questions answered on medication for neuropathic pain.
