SBS Insight episode on Conquering Chronic Pain

Painaustralia was pleased to support the production of the SBS Insight episode on Conquering Chronic pain that was televised on 14 April 2020. Host Jenny Brockie spoke to panellists, including the Chair of Painaustralia’s Consumer Advisory Group Sr Mary-Lynne Cochrane, Pain Champion and Invictus Gold Medallist Pete Rudland, and Board Director Prof Paul Glare, as they shared their experiences with chronic pain management.

The episode covered new approaches to treating chronic pain and discussed how instead of the conventional scans, surgery and drugs, now many people are favouring a holistic approach of psychology, physiotherapy and exercise along with more standard treatments.

The show touched on many multiple painful chronic conditions, with consumers sharing their lived experiences of migraine, endometriosis, Complex Regional Pain Syndrome among others.

The show also included researchers like Professor Mark Hutchinson who is currently researching a diagnostic blood test which will enable GPs to measure a patient’s pain level and allow doctors to prescribe targeted treatments rather than generic scans and medications.
