Painaustralia joins Pain MedsCheck
Painaustralia Director of Policy Louise Moes is participating in the Project Advisory Group for the rollout of Pain MedsCheck, the new $20-million Pharmaceutical Society of Australia/Pharmacy Guild trial program to help pharmacists provide targeted support to people with ongoing chronic pain.
Under the Pain MedsCheck trial, pharmacists will be resourced to provide face-to-face evaluation of a patient’s medicines and their pain management strategies.
Participating community pharmacies will be asked to build relationships with GPs and other health professionals in the local area who have expertise in chronic pain management to encourage a multidisciplinary approach to patient care.
Pain MedsCheck guidelines are being developed by the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia. Through the Project Advisory Group, Painaustralia and other organisations will be providing critical advice to the program.
We look forward to working with pharmacy bodies to ensure the principles of best-practice pain management and self-management of pain underpin the Pain MedsCheck program.
